  • After their Sunday morning basketball game at nearby P.S. 316, five pre-gentrification (read: black) Prospect Heights/Crown Heights residents stand marveling at one of the new businesses that has opened up recently.

It’s one of those trendy places that leave the signage from previous eras: a former deli.

“Skateboards, flowers and dry goods” says one of the men incredulously, reading the decal on the window and peering at the white guy behind the counter. ”The fuck?”

    “Dry goods means marijuana right?”

    “Beans,” says another man laughing.

    “Yeah, magic beans.”

“These white people think they can just hide what they’re doing behind some language. He probably puts ‘dry goods’ on his resume”

    “Just another drug dealer.”

    They walk away laughing.
